"Sheep 2010 sees launch of a NEW tag supplier to the Irish market.

Donegal based company ELITE are selling the Shearwell UK range of tags and electronic livestock reading equipment onto the Irish Market.

While at home on his fathers farm during a break from college in England, Dominic McGlynn a young Donegal man, attended several Teagasc sheep meetings and a live EID tagging demonstration at the local livestock mart in Carndonagh. Dominic and his father Dominick, who runs the mart, soon realised there was a lot of confusion about the introduction of electronic identification and tagging of sheep in Ireland.

After returning to England Dominic began making enquiries into companies supplying electronic tags and readers, his enquiries led him to Minehead, Somerset!

Shearwell Data Ltd. offers a slaughter / mart tag for only 15c. or a pair of tags one EID, one conventional for €1.19 per set.  These tags have been proven worldwide to have excellent retention rates and can therefore be used as a long term or short term tag. Shearwell Data and ELITE tags offer to replace for free (inc. postage) tags that are lost on orders of over 200 pairs or more. The technology involved in their design including the reduction of areas on the tag that could catch and the waterproof glass encased electronic chips creates a lifetime tag that is cheap enough to use for slaughter tags. Believing this is something the Irish farmers have never had the opportunity to buy, Dominic and ELITE tags have seized the opportunity to bring these tags to the Irish market.

We will be launching the products at Sheep 2010 on the 26th June where there will also be live demonstrations of the readers – handheld, run through and a weigh crate.  We look forward to seeing you there."
